Explore Havelock Island as a romantic honeymoon destination in Andaman and Nicobar.
Havelock Island - Walking with your soul-mate, with hands locked into his/her's on a vast expanse of a pristine beach might be the fantasy of thousands of newly-wed couples, who aspire for complete solitude on their honey-moon trip. But so far, most of them must have been ignoring this desire on the altar of the 'out of budget' beach holidays. However, one can enjoy that solitude right in India, on the Havelock Island at Andaman Islands.
Havelock Island is one of the most picturesque islands on the Andaman and is just one hour drive from Port Blair. It is a universally acknowledged truth that natural extravaganza tops the list of most of the travelers and Havelock Islands showcase a plentitude of it.
If eco-tourism excites you and natural beauty incites the romanticism in you, Havelock Island is the right place for you to be at on a vacation. Not only a refreshing landscape but also virgin beaches and a plethora of fun-filled activities await the leisure visitors and honeymooners alike at Andaman's Havelock Island. One of the most beautiful beaches on the island is named Radhanagar Beach. The natural grandeur of this white sand beach is at its scenic best during sun-sets that helped the beach earn the title of the Best Asian beach in 2004. The beach has lovely stretches of shallow water with stretches of sand at its bottom for the swimmers whereas snorkeling lovers can enjoy an assorted range of coral reefs. In short, the beach has something for every one.
Free elephant safaris through the forest may also come your way at this beach. The beach is well connected to the island through buses and auto-rickshaws running to and fro until sunset. A handful of food shacks also operate on the road connecting the beach to the island where the snorkels and fins can also be hired.
Another interesting beach at the Havelock Island is the Elephant beach that is located to the Northern coast of the Radhanagar beach. The tsunami that hit Indian coasts in 2004 swept away a huge part of the shoreline reducing the size of the elephant beach to half of its original one. Yet, the elephant beach is still quite popular amongst the tourists probably because of the best expanses of coral found here, making the beach an excellent snorkeling spot. Many trip organizers arrange snorkeling and diving camps on this beach. Though the beach is at a walking distance only from the Radhanagar beach yet mostly it is advised to opt for boat rides as the water on the way is quite swampy with an abundance of sharp shells. Amongst all the activities at the elephant beach in particular and on Havelock Island in general, scuba diving, perhaps is the biggest excluding sun-bath on the beaches hogging on yummy seafood.
The diving centers on the island charge a minimal fee for the entire trip including the equipment rent and instructors' fee however, it is advised to make advance bookings at the dive centers for they dispense a limited number of trips only. Some of the great places for the scuba divers at the Andaman include the elephant beach, the lighthouse at Havelock and South Button. Trekking, snorkeling, kayaking, mangrove safari and customized fishing (where guides arrange fish lines for the novice catchers) etc are some of the other activities that one can enjoy of the island.
Therefore, shove all the budgetary concerns away from you and pack your bags to explore the scenically ravishing Havelock Island that is a traveler's true delight.
